This week’s Trifecta challenge requires a story of 33 or 333 words using the third definition of:
1a : the natural opening through which food passes into the body of an animal and which in vertebrates is typically bounded externally by the lips and internally by the pharynx and encloses the tongue, gums, and teeth
b : grimace <made a mouth>
c : an individual requiring food <had too many mouths to feed>
2a : voice, speech
b : mouthpiece
3: something that resembles a mouth especially in affording entrance or exit: as

Here’s my puny attempt:
Hot. Tired. Footsore. I’ve walked how long? Long enough to spook a speckled fawn from its nest. From the mouth of the water bottle, a soggy lemon rind plops onto my parched tongue.
testing
Don’t you get testy with me!
I puckered at the end there. Good job.
BTW, I read Mother Lode the day after the meeting. I love the way you write Linda…some of your descriptions just blew me away. Really poignant. Lovely work.
I’m curious though, did you leave the gold and silver behind for your sister to find or did you and Erich take it with you guys?
We turned it over to the attorney who was handling the estate, much to Erich’s disappointment. It was then divided evenly between Iris and I.
Mouth meets mouth. You actually gave them more than they asked for.
Really? My Word counter came up with 33, so did my finger counter. But I do admit to being math challenged.
No, not the word count. I meant that you worked in two of the meanings for the word mouth.
Oh, duh! I’m such a dork. I see what you mean, now. Thank you!
Doing a lot with a little. I enjoyed it. Especially the speckled fawn.
Thanks!
Lovely!I could taste the lemon rind at the end:-)
Thanks for the encouragement!
love “spook the speckled fawn . . .” Beautiful 33
Thanks. Nice to know what works.
Proving that there is absolutely no need to force 333. Lovely.
Very kind. Thank you.
You manage to depict a real picture using a few choice words. That takes talent
Thanks for your encouragement!
That’s not puny! It’s really great! So much visualized in such a short span of words (:
Especially coming from you, that is encouraging! Thanks.
Love the details here; few words, but they were enough to make me thirsty too!
Well good, then. Nice big glass of water? Cheers.
Puny, maybe, but it speaks volumes.
You’re too kind. Thanks.
Now I need a drink myself! Well-done, Linda.
PS: Could be the breastfeeding thing, too
Breast feeding and lemon-rind. My mind won’t wrap around that.:-)
This is great.
Lovely imagery and language. Like a brush stroke with words.
And I’m honored for the blogroll nod. Thank you.
As always you paint such strikingly beautiful pictures!
Actually, I thought this was kinda dry and sour!
It actually happened. A much longer and more grueling story, believe me.
I really like this! You painted a really nice picture in just a few words.
Sweet! Thanks.
Hardly puny. You paint word pictures …
You’re so kind, Sybil. I wasn’t even sure if this silly thing linked up or not. Thanks for the encouragement.
