I visited this little fantasy land beside the Snake River about a year ago. It’s a great place to go during the swing season after skiing comes to a close and before it’s safe to explore the still snowy depths of the mountains. I found myself taking many of the same shots I had last year, but thanks to Otto von Müchow’s online workshop, I came home with images that required far less fiddling and tweaking. There’s a bit of kitsch for just about everyone here.

These are cute. I love the rainbow… Yes, I think it’s undoubtedly a religious reference, and I’m certain they don’t get it. Chuckle…

The joke’s on them. While I was there, a woman was busy cleaning the winter detritus from one of the garden areas, preparing it for Easter visitors. We exchanged pleasantries. She, of course, invoked Jesus’ name to wish me well. The rainbow watched over us. I smiled.

Linda, thanks for the Americana tribute. I love the seven sins. I was thinking of Snow White and the Seven Sins as a interesting adult movie, then scrolled down and there she was. I love the sign about at least being a horrible example. Take care, BTG

Thanks for the update on quirky Walter’s Ferry, Rangewriter. Have always enjoyed poking around that corner cupboard. Sure like what you are doing with your photographs. Am going to have to look further into Otto von Müchow’s workshops.

The word ‘quirky’ definitely comes to mind. What a neat place.

Yup. That sort of sums it up. The neatest part about it is that is quiet, and sort of hidden in plain sight. I bet only 90% of the people in this area even know it exists, much less have visited.

I don’t know what you’re best at–writing or photography? My daughter is headed to Iceland alone for 5 weeks. She too is a photographer. Any advice?

Oh my god. I wish I were going with her! Rent a car, get insurance when you rent it…weird things can happen on Iceland roads. Ride some ponies if you can. Keep that camera handy. Everything is photogenic there. I wish I’d been alone. Being with another person makes it difficult for a photographer to take the time necessary to really take in the sights and capture the ephemeral light. EVERYONE gets shoved into the Blue Lagoon. That said, it’s clean and really pretty cool, but there are tons of other places to also soak up the bubbling minerals. Oh, I could go on and on and on…..It’s a very safe country, daddoo. Don’t worry. Icelandic people are the warmest, friendliest people I’ve ever met.
