A Cat In Residence
the cat she sits,
a stoic,
purrs and meows
as fits her mood,
the cat she sits
and does not move,
as befits
a statue,
on the mantle piece
table or window sill,
then with a whirl she moves from
place to place,
soon stretching out
and lies about,
suddenly, starts and startles,
remembering something
she has forgot,
runs up and down
the steps
chasing her shadow
or something more profound,
dances up and down
and all around,
flops on the ground
and sighs
her secret kept
we in a quandry
wonder,
what makes
her dreams
come true

Nicely done. After we lost one of our dogs, our cat will cozy up to my wife or me and sleep against our side for warmth and won’t move unless we do. It may be that or the fact we keep it a degree colder in the house. Thanks for your poetry. BTG

Since I retired, my cat has become velcro-kitty. Constantly in my lap or draped over my arms. With her, it is also a bit of a heat thing, but she does have her own heating pad to lie on.
Thanks for your steadfast support of my esoteric subjects!

ABSOLUTELY – your photos are so full of cattitude. and the poem sums it up. I do like this.

Rats have far too much rattitude! As for cats, most seem extremely wilful when it comes to having their photos taken.

You must have more experience with rats than I have. By willful you must be referring to their utter boredom over the whole human/camera thing.

I love how you juxtaposed the cat pics and the poem. Seeing the posture and the paws reminds me they are the same, though we often fail to think of them in that way. Nicely done.

Cats, big and small are really all the same: you are so very right. While Dogs have evolved and changed so very much, house cats are just smaller versions of their bigger cousins.

Thanks, Sybil. But cat’s have been pretty oddly bred as well. It’s hard to imagine a Persian cat hunting much more than a hairball! 😉
