inFor what it’s worth, I’m happy to report that the Idaho Food Bank Stamp Out Hunger drive was a resounding success. For anyone who missed it, I wrote about my participation in this event in a previous post.
This year’s food drive, sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers, raised approximately 173,300 pounds of food. This in an increase of about 8,000 pounds over last year’s take. According to the US Department of Agriculture, the number of Americans living in food-insecure homes last year was nearly 49 million people, one of five of whom was a child.
At a time when all of us struggle to make ends meet, all the food donors, the volunteers, the event sponsors, and most of all US Postal Service Carriers deserve kudos for making this year’s event successful.
